Mens Academy Update
As the season draws to a close OLSC Mens Academy keep to their winning habits, before and after Easter has seen the lads beat New Academy 4-1 in the Wolverhampton Schools League, New College Telford 3-1 and in our latest match getting an excellent 4-3 win against League rivals Codsall. The win against Codsall was surely the highlight as the Codsall team ran out easy winners earlier on in the season, and in addition to this OLSC played 65mins of the game with only 10 men when Ryan Mole instinctively dived to save a certain goal, however forgot he was not the GK and received a straight red card for deliberate hand ball. OLSC re-shuffled and battled on bravely with no shortage of skill and determination. The star of the show in terms of our goals was Ryan Carter who scored all 4! However, in relation to stars there were 14 today with everyone in the squad playing their part. A debut in goal for Chris Bourne in year 11 saw the stopper make some excellent saves to keep the game within the grasp of the team. A disciplined and courageous effort saw OLSC come out on top meaning that the two teams who will finish above us have also both been beaten by OLSC, what could have been? As for the top goalscorer honours Ryan Carter has run away with this scoring 25 goals so far this season, a great return. Second place is more tight Fred currently on 7, Tapi on 6 and Keith on 5, who will grab the honour of being the top midfield goalscorer? Watch this space.
Mens Academy - OLSC v Kidderminster
OLSC entertained Kidderminster knowing that only a win would suffice, confidence was high as we had beaten the opposition soundly in our first meeting. Coach Holloway demanded better quality today and the lads duly obliged on what was a really difficult playing surface at Old Fallings Lane.
The result never seemed in doubt as OLSC played around their opponents with ease right from the first whistle. Keith Mitchell putting OLSC ahead with a neat chip, which was going wide until a kind bobble sent it back into the Kidderminster net, a goal is a goal though! Tapi then got into the action with a simple finish to make it 2-0 and then finished again from 20yards out, argubly the goal of the game. 3-0 at half time was a good reflection of OLSC's dominance, changes were made at half time to give all players their opportunity and 2 more goals were scored in the second half, another good finish from Travis made it 4 and finally Ryan Carter got on the scoresheet to make it 5 ending a barron spell for the striker and still leading goalscorer. Ryan leads the way so far with 16 goals, followed then by Fred with 7, Tapi with 6 and Keith with 5, sure no-one will catch Mr Carter however a good battle ensuing for second place between the other 3. At the other end a good clean sheet was welcome too!
Final score OLSC 5 Kidderminster 0
Mens Academy - OLSC v TCAT
OLSC travelled to Lilleshall knowing that a win would keep their League aspirations very much alive, however TCAT were not going to rollover without a fight and they started well pressurising OLSC all over the pitch. OLSC finally got into their stride and should have taken the lead when good work from Tapi presented Ryan Carter with a glorious chance unmarked from only a few yards out, however OLSC's top scorer inexpicably put the ball wide when it looked easier to score. Further chances came and went for OLSC and half time arrived at 0-0, would the missed chances come back to haunt OLSC? Maybe not as the second half started brightly enough and the introduction of Jovan and Brian Greenway seemed to have livened OLSC up, with Brian a constant threat on the ball. His good work finally rewarded when some good combination play put him through and he finished well. More clear chances were missed and this seemed to inspire TCAT and they started to get more into the game. Goals change games and TCAT fumbled a soft finish into the OLSC net and the momentum swung even further their way, and soon enough they took the lead with a neat finish. Of late OLSC had shown great character to bring themselves back into games and their steel would be well and truly tested here as time started to run out. More attacks came to nothing and frustration started to set in. The game went into added time and with the Ref stating there were only 30 seconds to go OLSC mounted one last attack. Again orchestrated through Brian his tricky work down the wing meant the ball landed at Jovan's feet, one last chance to salvage a point, Jovan (who takes some stick for his finishing ability) finally compsed himself and with his left foot saved the game for OLSC. Final result 2-2, great character again to come from behind, however a point was not the objective for the day!
Women's Plate v Dudley College
For the 2nd time in the cup we were faced with Dudley College. We started well playing the ball around the pitch but struggled to create chances in the opening stages, it was an evenly contested match until Dudley broke the offside trap and their lively striker latched onto the ball a slotted the ball into the bottom corner to make it 1-0 to Dudley. Dudley continued to press but Charlotte McElroy made some fantastic saves to keep the score at 1-0 at HT. OLSC started brightly in the 2nd half with some excellent passing and got their reward when Jade Cross had a shot from 25 yards out which the keeper spilled and went into the back of the net. This got Dudley going again and a lack of concentration at the back allowed Dudley to go through on goal and put them back infront. OLSC have this never say die attitude and continued to push to get their second goal creating many chances with the Dudley keeper making some good saves however Leonnie Finnikin struck a low left foot shot into the bottom corner after being played through and cut in from the wing. This game was looking to go into extra time until some good play 3 minutes from time enabled Dudley to get their 3rd goal of the game to make it 3-2 and seen the game out to progress to the next round.
OLSC next and final game against North East Worcestershire College is on the 13th March 2013 at home.
Women's Plate v Shrewsbury College
The first match for a while due to the weather saw OLSC v Shrewsbury in the Plate. OLSC started brightly and were rewarded with a goal from Lauren Framiloe just after 15 minutes a well worked goal with lots of good passing in the build up. OLSC were controlling the game and continued to attack the Shrewsbury goal. Lauren Farmiloe attacked the right wing and had a shot from the side of the area a netted her 2nd goal of the game with the ball flying into the top corner to make it 2-0 at half time.
The girls were controlling the game at the start of the 2nd half but Shrewsbury played on the counter and scored against the run of play. This lifted both teams and OLSC produced some excellent passing working there way up the pitch and Tara Breakwell scored her first goal of the season with a cool finish to make it 3-1. Shrewsbury came back with some good play and again scored against the run of play making it 3-2. OLSC worked hard to extend the lead creating mainy chances and were rewarded with that 4th goal when Emma Cross scored arrowing the ball into the top corner. OLSC now wanted to keep the game at 4-2 and looked to have done this but in the last minute Shrewsbury played a good ball over the top and slotted the ball home. OLSC won 4-3 and progress into the next round against Dudley College.
Match Day 6/2/13 - Kidderminster College v OLSC
OLSC travelled to Kidderminster looking to complete back to back away League victories after last weeks nailbiting 4-3 victory against Birmingham Met College, this victory and a run of good results had pushed OLSC up to 3rd position in the League and playing the bottom club today were hoping to continue their good run of form. OLSC could not afford complacency though as Kidderminster had won their last 2 games as well so their confidence was high and were expecting another good performance. The message from the gaffer before the game was to get the job done given the windy cold conditions and a muddy pitch. OLSC set about their task well in the early exchanges and it was clear that the quality football was coming mainly from the Academy players. The Academy brand of free flowing passing football was clearly too much for the opposition and chances were coming thick and fast and the breakthrough was iminent. When it came it came from an unlikely source and proves football can be cruel one week and great the next. Step up Travis Myers who just last week missed a sitter from 6 yards out, however no such worries this week as testament to Travis's willingness to get forward he slotted home a cool finish to put OLSC in the lead. OLSC then seemed to sit back and invited Kidderminster back into the game and the opposition took full advantage of some sloppy dfensive work to grab a leveller against the run of play. Previous seasons would have seen OLSC collapse however nowadays with better teamwork, character and resolve this set back just spurred them on and they were soon back in front courtesy of top scorer Ryan Carter. Before half time OLSC were deservedly further ahead when Kyle Sawyers cooly slotted home to make it 3-1.
Kidderminster started the second half determined to pull themselves back into the game and duly grabbed an early goal to make it 3-2. This gave them renewed confidence as they sniffed a surprise comeback, however as before and, despite not passing the ball well, OLSC were certainly finishing well (sure we practised this in training last week!!) Fred Summerville then took up the mantle and scored the first of his 3 in the second half. Despite getting one further goal back the game was put to bed with some clinical finishing, seeing Fred complete his first hat-trick of the season and Keith Mitchell scrambling home his first of the game. Final score OLSC 7 - Kidderminster College 3, job done and another 3 points in the bag!
Match Day 30/1/13 OLSC v Birmingham Met College
OLSC Academy travelled to B'ham Met College hoping to do the double over their opposition after a convincing 4-1 win earlier in the season. What we didn't expect was a gale force wind to contend with and an opposition who felt they had a point to prove. Against a strong wind OLSC soon found themselves in trouble, struggling to deal with the conditions and B'ham Met's high pressing style. OLSC went 1-0 down early on and were struggling to get into the game and out of their own half! However through trust in each other's ability and faith in our passing game OLSC slowly started to create our own chances and get a foothold in the game. Disaster struck though and OLSC went 2-0 down after an unfortunate own goal. This setback was met not with despair but with a belief that we could get back into the game and Ryan Carter, after an excellent through ball from Fred Summerville, finished off a great counter attacking move to make it 2-1 at half time and momentum on the side of OLSC.
Playing the better football and with a strong belief that we could get back into the game confidence was still high, and this confidence was not misplaced as OLSC dominated the second half. Ryan Carter drew us level and Tom Warrilow got OLSC ahead with his first goal of the season. 3-2 up and a great comeback on the cards, then OLSC made one costly error and switched off momentarily, this was enough to hand B'ham Met an equaliser! 3-3 with time running out, chances going begging but none being taken it looked like the game would end all square. Step up Ryan Carter and with time running out he cooly lifted a Keith Mitchell through ball over the advancing keepers head for a dramatic late winner. Final score OLSC 4 - B'ham Met 3.

Women's football ESFA Round 3 Cup v Thomas Telford
The girls faced a tough task against a very strong Thomas Telford side in round 3. The girls started brightly nearly taking the lead through Leonnie Finnikin with a cross/shot hitting the cross bar and bouncing on the line. The girls continue to press the opposition not giving them lots of time on the ball and were working hard to limit their chances. Thomas Telford took the lead on 30 minutes with the ball coming off one of our players which fell nicely to their striker who slotted the ball home. The girls continued to work hard thoughout the half but went in at half time 1-0 down. After a positive team talk the girls came out knowing that had to give another 35 minutes their all and again started brightly, their was great work at the back from Lauren Familoe, Emma Cross, Tara Breakwell and Tiffanie Smart. The girls continue to play in their opponents half and a miss kick from their keeper fell nicely to Chantelle Simpson on the half way line who took a touch and then hit a low driven shot into the corner, it was a fantastics goal and the girls celebrated. The girls continued to reduce Thomas Telford's chances with great work from Jade Cross, Ali Davidson, Chantelle Simpson. The girls defended well throughout as a whole with some excellent saves from Charlotte McElroy. With 1 minute to go of normal time Thomas Telford worked there way up the pitch and slotted the ball into the corner of the net to make it 2-1. All girls played very well and the school are so proud of there performance anaginst one of the best sides in the competition.
Well done ladies you did us proud!
Women's football ESFA Round 2 Cup v Madeley Academy
The girls Youth Academy had a bright start against Madeley Academy creating some chances with a few close goals. The girls kept control of the game with excellent attacking skills but failed when Madeley Academy took their first counter attack and scored with a lob over Charlotte Mclroy making the game 1-0 in the first half. The girls faught back in the second half but failing a second time when the Madeley Academy took their second goal of the game. Feeling the pressure the girls stepped up their game when Charlotte Mclroy played the ball over the top for Lauren Farmiloe to latch onto and slot the ball home a fantastic goal taking the game to 2-1. OLSC continued to fight to try and get the equaliser and it came with 10 minutes left to play as the ball was played through to Chelsea Shirley who slotted the ball into the back of the net. OLSC then had the determination to get the winner and were pressing Madeley into their own half with there keeper making some fantastic saves, however OLSC got what they had set out to do and again a ball was played over the top by Charlotte Mclroy for which chelsea ran clear of the defence and scored her second goal of the game with a minute left to play. The girls won 3-2 to progress into the next round against Thomas Telford.
Women's Football Academy gets their first win of the season at the first time of asking! September 26th 2012
The girls started the game brightly restricting the chances New College had to offer and after 15 minutes OLSC took the lead through Lauren Farmiloe with a fantastic lob from 25 yards. The girls controlled the game throughout the first half with some excellent passing and footwork skills but failed to capitalise on our chance to go in at half time with a bigger lead. The second half saw New College change their keeper and was called straight into action on a number of occassions making some fantastic saves. OLSC stepped it up a level again and scored with an excellent individual effort from Emma Cross dribbling with the ball from in her own half and taking players on as she made her way into the penalty area and slotted the ball home. New College then stepped it up after that goal and started to play the ball around as a team and were rewarded with a goal. They continued to pile on the pressure but were undone by OLSC who on the counter attack saw Sian Jones scoring her first goal of the season. New College then scored again but OLSC hung on to win their first league game of the season 3-2.
Well Done Ladies!
Women's football ESFA Round 1 Cup v Walsall Academy
The girls Football Academy were taking part in their first fixture against Walsall Academy in the ESFA cup competition. The girls took the lead early on through Chantelle Simpson scoring from 25 yards and dipping under the cross bar. The girls played some excellent football and played well together as a team which was then awarded with a 2nd goal, a cross came in from the right and was comfortably slotted into the back of the net from Leonine Finnikin. We dominated the first half but unfortunately conceded a penalty in the last couple of minutes to make it 2-1 at half time. The girls again controlled the 2nd half and should of extended their lead with another 2 goals however we failed to take our chances, Walsall Academy again scored against the run of play to make it 2-2 at full time. The girls again controlled the 2nd half and should of extended their lead with another 2 goals however we failed to take our chances, Walsall Academy again scored against the run of play to make it 2-2 at full time. Penalties were then needed to decide who won the tie and olsc came out on top with Emma Cross, Jade Cross, Lauren Farmiloe and Charlotte McElroy converting their penalties to go through to the next round against Madeley Sports Academy game to be played next week.
